Communications Minister Highlights Gaming's Role in Shaping Future Technologies

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Abdullah bin Amer Al-Swaha participated on Saturday in the opening session of the New Global Sports Conference (NGSC) hosted in Riyadh over two days under the theme "The Future of Fandom."
Al-Swaha emphasized that the support and empowerment provided to the gaming and esports sector by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, reflects the Kingdom's ambition to become a hub for this industry and a magnet for digital talent from around the world, contributing to the achievement of Vision 2030.
During the opening session, which was attended by Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Esports Federation (SEF), Eng. Al-Swaha spoke about the vital role that games play in shaping modern technologies and innovations. He noted that the growth and prosperity of generative artificial intelligence and other technologies serving humanity are rooted in the graphics processing unit (GPU), originally designed for graphics and games, which has now become the cornerstone of these advanced technologies. He also showcased Saudi success stories, such as Rasha Al-Qahtani's innovative mental health games and Ali Al-Qarni's journey from gaming enthusiast to astronaut.
