  • Survey for Demand and Supply in the Digital Economy

INTRODUCTION/PURPOSE OF THE SURVEY:

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies is conducting a survey of companies across sectors to understand existing and future demand for digital economy jobs in Saudi Arabia, until 2025. As such, the Ministry aims to capture:

-    The distribution of digital economy jobs across all sectors of the economy
-    The growing demand for specific digital economy job families

The outcomes of this survey will inform existing and future supply gaps in human capital, and therefore shape the developments of policies and initiatives to address those gaps, including upskilling and reskilling training efforts and talent attraction and retention efforts.
Target respondents should have a strong understanding of the IT and digital-related jobs within their company. Ideally, respondents should be the heads of IT, digital and/or innovation-related departments.
The survey should take up to 30 minutes. We thank you for your participation and for sharing your insights.

Digital economy jobs
Digital economy jobs are defined by the OECD and World Bank as those related to developing, maintaining and operating ICT systems including:
I.    ICT-Intensive jobs, which are directly created through the production of ICT and through the intensive use of ICT e.g., Software developer, DevOps engineer
II.    ICT-Dependent jobs, where digital technology enables work to such a degree that the job cannot be performed without the technology e.g., BI Specialist, Support specialist

Note, IT-enhanced jobs that are facilitated by using IT as a tool are not included e.g., Ride hailing drivers, lawyers at IT companies, etc.

Job family distribution
To analyze the supply and demand gaps in Saudi Arabia, we need to understand the existing distribution of employees across sectors and job families.
For the purpose of our study, we are using a more granular segmentation of jobs compared to what is included in official regulation. As such, we kindly ask you to use your judgement to estimate the distribution of jobs across the proposed job families that are part of our framework.
For example, if employees are registered under “Data Entry Clerk”, we kindly ask you to estimate the share of these developers that could be classified under the relevant potential jobs families by percentage. The sum of each job percentages should be 100%.

What is the breakdown of the existing job families across the proposed job families used for the study?
